When to book your Pregnancy Photographer
The best time for your pregnancy photo shoot is between 30 – 35 weeks. The time frame will vary from person to person depending on how many children you have had, if you’re carrying multiple babies and your general comfort during pregnancy. You need to have a good size bump but not so big that you will feel uncomfortable. What you wear will depend on the style of session you would like to create. Bringing a range of outfits will add variety to your images or your welcome to choose from my maternity wardrobe. I have a selection of dresses and lace robes to help style your shoot. You are best to book in advance, but I do on occasion have space for last minute bookings. If you are wanting a location Saturday session then booking around 34 weeks is the best option so is the weather is bad we can reschedule.
Who can come with you
Its your pregnancy shoot so you decide who will join you. Your older children are more than welcome to join you and your partner in your maternity photography session. Fur babies/pets are also easy to include in studio or on location. I’m an experienced maternity photographer, and mother, so working with pets, partners and family’s are an easy add on. So you can trust I know how to get the best from everyone you choose to bring.
What to bring to your maternity photography session
If you’re including a partner or other children you need to select clothing that is complementary. I find picking three colours that look good together will make it easier to find something in the wardrobe. What you choose to wear will affect the overall feel of the photos. I suggest lighter colours, or natural tones like soft browns for your maternity photos. Mum could wear nice fitted clothes that show off the belly or flowing dresses can easily be scooped up to show off the shape.
You can bring other outfits with you such as a man’s collared shirt, a nice set of underwear or any other item you think may work.
Other props you may like to include are a scan photo, soft toy or baby shoes. It’s up to you.
If you have small children please bring drinks and some snacks to have after the shoot and maybe a bribe of some kind depending on what motivates them.
Baby wipes will also come in handy during the session with small children.
Location or Studio
This is a very personal choice and I can help guide you to the best option for you. If you simply cant decide then let’s do both. My studio is located on our beautiful property in Waipapa and has a super cool waterfall for the adventurous.
Posing for your pregnancy photography
It can be a bit daunting having your photograph taken at the best of times. You can be assured I will guide you through the whole session. My goal is to make you feel as comfortable as possible and this will reflect in the images taken.
Stretch marks
You need to know how normal it is to have stretch marks. Please don’t be worried about showing your belly (if that’s what you want). We can photoshop most of these away.
