Capturing the beauty of pregnancy

New life brings so many emotions, expectations, and physical changes. Pregnancy for many women is a time when you are at your most natural, feminine and beautiful. Pregnancy photoshoots can be the perfect reminders of the power and beauty of your body and can capture forever that special bond between you and your child from conception to childbirth.

Good maternity photos are about emotions and connections

A great maternity photography session will do more than produce gorgeous images that flatter you on your journey to motherhood. Great maternity photos focus on your emotions, your connection to your baby bump and your bond with the wee human you’re longing to meet. To achieve that you need a professional photographer with strong technical skills and years of experience in pregnancy photography who knows how to use light, angles and poses to make you feel beautiful, confident, and comfortable. If you feel happy with the photography, the atmosphere and what you’re wearing it will show through the photo and you’ll get stunning maternity images.

Kerikeri maternity photographer Gina Brumby

I’m based in Kerikeri, and I offer pregnancy photoshoots at my Kerikeri photography studio or anywhere across Northland at a location that suits. Studio, location and in-home sessions are all available. We can create beautiful pregnancy images that are as simple or as creative as you like, and you are welcome to include your partner, children or fur babies and any special props you have.

ABOUT GINA

On-location pregnancy photos

On-location photos can be striking, particularly if you choose a place that is special to your family. Options might be your favourite local Northland beach, the bach, under a huge Pohutukawa, by a local Kerikeri waterfall or, depending on the season, amongst the flowering bulbs and shrubs or autumn trees at Roland’s wood in Kerikeri. It’s entirely up to you.

Pregnancy photoshoots at home

We can also take your maternity photos at your place, wherever that may be in Northland. Taking maternity photos at the place you call home when you’re bringing another life to join your family can be very intimate. You may be also more comfortable in familiar surroundings where it is easier to get changed into different outfits. I certainly have the lighting and equipment to be able to work where you are most at ease.

Studio photoshoot

You may prefer to have your photos taken at my Kerikeri photography studio. This can give us more control over lighting, the choice of background, and possibly more privacy, if that is what you would like better.

MAKE A BOOKING

Pregnancy photography is all about you and your baby bump

Soft palette, light and airy, modern with vibrant colours, boho chic, semi-nude or boudoir belly: the choice of styles is yours and I’m happy to try to replicate images you have seen from other photographers. However, because you and your baby bump are unique and we both have our own creative styles, the photos we create together will never be exactly the same as pregnancy photos you may have seen elsewhere.

The right pregnancy photographer will make you feel beautiful and confident

The key to great pregnancy photos lies in choosing a photographer you can trust to direct you so you can look and feel your best. I’ll make sure you feel relaxed during the photography session by creating a calm environment and most importantly I’ll show you how to best position yourself for the most flattering poses. I will gently guide you so we can get the best images of both your baby bump and of you.

Tips on how to look beautiful for your maternity photoshoot

I have a selection of pregnancy outfits that you are welcome to use, including lacy robes, fitted dresses, and fabric for draping. If you choose to wear a dress, skirt, tank top, gown or fabrics of your own, it is best to keep them simple. Neutral (block) colours or soft colours work well. You want to keep the focus on yourself and your baby rather than on your choice of dress.

Make your beautiful bump the centre of attention

You should wear clothes that are fitted and show off your beautiful bump, rather than those that are loose and lack shape. You may also like to bring a matching set of black and white underwear. Have a look at our website gallery of pregnancy photos for examples of what other mums-to-be have worn.

When should the pregnancy photos be taken?

It is up to you when you want to take the photos. Generally, however, for expectant mothers carrying singletons, a good time to do your maternity photos is when you are 28 – 32 weeks along in your third trimester (around 7 to 8 months pregnant). Your belly is showing beautifully but you are still comfortable enough posing. For those expecting more than one new family member, we suggest pregnancy photoshoots take place earlier – around 26 to 30 weeks.

Who can be with you?

The rest of the family is welcome to join you. In fact, if your partner or children are in the photo, you may feel even more at ease. If they are with you, Dad and any other members of the family should keep their clothing simple and avoid bold patterns, logos or branding. If you have small children joining you at the photo shoot, please make sure they are fed before they arrive and bring drinks or snacks to have during and after the photo session. Baby wipes can also come in handy.

Cherish the moments

Being a maternity photographer, I love to capture mums-to-be. As a mother of three, I know how special this time of your life is. Whether it is your first or fifth child, pregnancy photoshoots give you the opportunity to celebrate your pregnancy and create memories of this fleeting, special moment in time.
